February Meeting: Charles Phillips Trevelyan by David Raw

February’s presentation was by author David Raw (Bradford Pals and Rev Theodore Bayley Hardy VC) and was on the charismatic and some might say renegade Charles Trevelyan, MP for Elland 1899-1918. He staunchly opposed Britain’s entry into the First World War, resigning from his government post in 1914, and regularly advocated a negotiated peace with Germany. He used his platform as a member of Parliament for Elland and founder member of the Union of Democratic Control as his political base. David Raw has been a regular speaker at our society and delighted us with a very polished off the cuff resume of Charles Trevelyan’s life and times.
