We have just arrived back from a very successful and enjoyable trip to the Ypres Salient in Belgium and the 1916 Somme battlefields in France. As a group our focus is on the experience of the Halifax area in the Great War but we cannot ignore the military aspects of the war and the trip was to partly satisfy this need. Eight people travelled to the battlefields including wives of our members. The seven day trip was very ably organised by Rob Hamilton who also planned out the itinerary and guided members around the many sites. We were blessed with good weather and two easy crossings on the Zeebrugge ferry. Many of us even managed a sun tan. Once all the photographic material has been sorted a fuller account will appear in the ‘Events’ section of this website.
