As part of the Halifax Heritage Festival taking place over the next few days we are staging a
Great War Memorabilia Day in the Great War Galleries of Bankfield Museum.
Past members of your family participated in our Nation’s endeavours during the years 1914 to 1918. Have you any photographs, diaries, postcards, trench art, uniform items, medals, souvenirs or other artifacts relating to their military or civilian service?
Bring them to our Great War Memorabilia Day and our enthusiasts will do their best to assess them, research further details for you and record them as part of Calderdale’s Great War Effort.
Sunday 13 September from 2.00 pm – 3.30 pm (approx)
Halifax Great War Guided Walk
The walk will take you around Central Halifax to hear its stories and experience how it was involved in the Great War 1914-18. It will start at the Halifax Minster (by its clock tower). The route will roughly take you through Prescott Street, Clare Road, Bull Green, George Square, Southgate and finish at the Halifax Town Hall. It will be accompanied by tablet or smartphone interaction with additional media on our website. (You do not have to provide tablets or smartphones). Part of the experience will be to listen in to audio reconstructions of events taking place at some of the locations. The walk is moderate with some inclines.
It is based on our Central Halifax Great War Heritage Map which can be found at:
